Ekal Australia sponsors 425 schools and targets 500 this year

Education is the best gift you can give to a child

“If the  poor children  cannot come to the school, then school must go to them”. -Swami  Vivekananda

Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of Australia (EKAL) is one of seven overseas chapters of parent NGO, Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, in India.   This is a unique concept bringing informal education to the poor in tribal and remote villages by providing free, non-formal education.   The concept is single teacher schools with whatever accommodation and facilities can be provided by the local community.   Each school provides basic education in reading & writing, simple arithmetic, hygiene and moral values to around 25 children who otherwise would most probably be left illiterate for their lives.   Ekal India is now running over 38,000 such schools, with the overall aim of increasing the number to 100,000.

With a humble beginning of 30 schools sponsored in 2004, the local organisation has by now attracted enough donors to sponsor more than 425 schools.   Sponsorship of a school for one year costs a very reasonable amount of $480.  Smaller donations can also be made, including sponsoring half a school.

As EKAL is a recognised genuine charitable organisation in Australia, all donations are fully tax deductible.

Please help EKAL reach its goal of sponsoring 500 schools this year and 1000 schools in the long term from Australia.
