Superstar Rajesh Khanna passes away!

 

Rajesh Khanna, favourite film actor of the seventies romantic films and heart throb of many millions of fans, died in Mumbai in his home ”˜Aashirvaad’ with his family was on his bedside including his son-in-law Akshay Kumar. He had been ailing for some time and was in and out of the hospital.

The social media including Facebook, Twitter has been inundated with tributes to the superstar with fans talking about him and taking a look at his famous songs and scenes from his films.

PM Manmohan Singh said in his tweet: “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and countless fans and admirers of Rajesh Khanna.”

Wrote actor Anupam Kher: “Rajesh Khanna gave us a crash course in Romance. He introduced us to a special twinkle in the eye that made us feel good about ourselves.”

Director Karan Johar: “The magic… the mannerism… the mania of RAJESH KHANNA is inscribed in every archive of Indian cinema… Forever…. RIP SIR!!!”

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhat wrote: “When we lose a loved one, something within us dies. Our generation loved Rajesh Khanna. Today a bit of us dies with this enigmatic star.”

Actress Shabana Azmi tweeted: “He was the superstar like no other. I did 10 films with him. Met him last at Apsara awards. Pale shadow of himself but smile as winsome.”

Popularly called “Kaka” by his fans, the actor won a host of industry awards during his long career, although he was only recently seen in his first television commercial.

Aradhana, Bawarchi, Anand, Amar Prem, Kati Patang, Akhri Khat were some of Rajesh’s famous movies. He paired on screen with Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, Hema Mailini, Asha Parekh, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil,Padmini Kolhapure, Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim. Seventies superhero had girls going crazy for him as some even married his photographs. In year 1985 out of 11 of his released films eight were hits one after the other. One critic put it, “Rajesh was the God and there has never been so much hysteria ever.” Not only his fans but even the heroines vied for his attention. After the film Bobby Rajesh married Dimple Kapadia and had two daughters with her.

His chemistry with his heroines was unbelievable.  People saw his movies again and again. He exuded such charm that no one would believe it any other way. Aradhana’s movie’s famous song ‘Mere Sapnon Ki Rani’ is known for the romantic chemistry between him and Sharmila. Yet no one would believe that the scenes were edited together to show Rajesh singing the famous song to his lady love. Sharmila Tagore was shooting for a Satyajit Ray film and director Shakti Samanta had to shoot their scenes separately and then join the scenes together. The song on youtube has 3.5 million hits demonstrating the popularity of Rajesh even till today.

Alas! we will only be able to remember him through his movies which are as fresh as ever with Rajesh looking dashingly young and handsome with superb acting.
