MESSAGE FROM PRIME MINISTER KEVIN RUDD

INDIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY 2013

It is with great pleasure that I send my best wishes to the Indian Australian

community and to all involved in the celebration of Indian Independence Day.

Australia’s bilateral relationship with India is one of great depth, strength and

significance. Our two countries share much in common, including a proud

history of democracy and a consuming love of cricket.

Australia proudly boasts a strong Indian community and celebrations such as

those underway for Indian Independence Day are an opportunity to recognise

and admire the valuable cultural contribution that the Indian community has

made to Australia.

It is with these thoughts in mind that I once again, on behalf of Australians

everywhere, wish the Indian community a joyous celebration and

Independence Day.
