Condolence books for Nelson Mandela
NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell today on December 9, 2013 announced that condolence books will be available at a number of locations across the state, to allow NSW residents to pay their respects to the late Nelson Mandela.
“We all mourn the passing of South Africa’s first black president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela – a true global hero and one of history’s most inspirational figures,” Mr O’Farrell said.
“To give people the opportunity to pay their respects to Nelson Mandela, the NSW Government is placing condolence books at a number of locations including the Sydney Opera House, NSW Parliament House and the offices of State MPs. There will also be an online condolence book.
“Through his words and actions Nelson Mandela was able to teach the world the true meaning of forgiveness.
“He inspired all Australians when he addressed the nation on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in 1990.
“Nelson Mandela did what cannot be said of many people – he changed the world.
“He will be missed ”“ but his legacy will endure.”
The books will be available for signing until Thursday 19 December and they will then be presented to the South African Government.
The books can be signed from today at the following locations;
Sydney Opera House
Location: Information Desk, Box Office Foyer
Access: Monday to Saturday from 9.00am – 8.30pm and
Sunday from 9.00am – 5.00pm
