Republic Day Flag-hoisting at Consul General’s residence
The Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s address to the nation on the eve of 65th Republic Day was politically loaded obliquely admonishing the rise of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the name he did not mention.
“Elections do not give any person the licence to flirt with illusions. Those who seek the trust of voters must promise only what is possible. Government is not a charity shop. Populist anarchy cannot be a substitute for governance,” he said.
The flag-hoisting ceremony at the Consul-General, Mr Arun Goel’s residence was well attended being on a Sunday and a long weekend. It was an emotional moment when it was mentioned that it was last community function for Mr Goel who leaves for India in a few months and then retires from his high profile job.
After the ceremony there was a cultural program at a nearby hall that was followed by refreshments.
