Jogmaya Narpatsingh, a well-known poet in the Indian community in Sydney, has passed away at the age of 79 years following a brief illness. Known lovingly by her friends as ”˜Mayaji’, she belonged to a royal background from Rajasthan. Maya ji was truly a beautiful soul, gentle in her manners and loving.

Maya ji was married to the late Narpat Singh, regional Director of Air India. The family came to Australia in 1983 and settled with their four children.

Maya ji was a poet in her own right having published two books – ”˜Diva Light and Life’s Rythms’. She penned some beautiful poems including ones on Princess Diana, Mother Theresa, Peace and Sydney Opera House among many more centred around family, friends and people she admired.

We, at The Indian Down Under, had a long association with Maya ji and are saddened by her death. Our heartfelt condolences go to the family. Maya ji’s funeral and memorial service is planned for Wednesday, September 9, at 3.15 pm at the Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens Crematorium, 199 Delhi Road, North Ryde.
