20th Biennale presents 4 Indian artists in a list of 83 from around the world
Sydney, Australia: The Artistic Director of the 20th Biennale of Sydney, Stephanie Rosenthal, today announced 13 new artists and artist collectives who will be presented in the forthcoming exhibition. Titled The future is already here ”” it’s just not evenly distributed, the 20th Biennale will be presented at 19 locations ”“ including seven main sites or ”˜embassies of thought’ ”“ from 18 March and continue until 5 June, 2016.

The announcement brings the total number of participating artists in Australia’s largest contemporary art event to 83, hailing from 35 countries. More than 200 individual art works spanning all mediums ”“ with a focus on performance ”“ will be presented free of charge to the public during the Biennale’s three-month exhibition period.

Since its inception in 1973, the Biennale of Sydney has provided a platform for art and ideas, showcasing the work of nearly 1,700 artists from more than 100 countries. Today it is considered one of the leading international art events, recognised for commissioning and presenting innovative, thought provoking art from Australia and around the world. In 2014, the 19 th Biennale of Sydney attracted more than 623,000 visits. With 40 per cent of visits made by people from outside of Sydney, the Biennale holds an important place on both the national and international stage.
Indian artists from India and other places whose work will be presented in Sydney are: Sudarshan Shetty (India); Dayanita Singh (India); Neha Choksi (USA/India) and Bharti Kher (England/India)
