Queensland’s (ECCQ), Berlasco Court Caring Centre receives $10 million grant for aged care facility
The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland’s (ECCQ), Berlasco Court Caring Centre has received $10 million in capital grant funding from the Australian Government.
In addition to this funding, 48 additional residential care places are being allocated to the Berlasco Centre, a residential aged care facility, located in Indooroopilly. The funding will be used to rebuild and upgrade the Centre’s services and facilities for older residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The new facility will accommodate 108 people from over 20 culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Centre staff also come from diverse backgrounds and collectively speak an impressive 56 languages.
“I am delighted to be here today with Assistant Minister Jan Prentice, to see for myself the work the Centre is doing to provide high quality care to diverse older members of Indooroopilly”, said Assistant Minister Wyatt.
“The Australian Government is proud to help culturally and linguistically diverse older Australians reside in facilities that understand their specific needs and to stay near communities they have grown to know and love,” said Assistant Minister Wyatt.
“We are keen to work in partnership with local community providers, to make sure older Australians are well cared for and safe in the right environment with their individual needs met in a culturally sensitive way,” said Assistant Minister Wyatt.
The ECCQ have been standard bearers for culturally and linguistically diverse aged care for 40 years.
The Berlasco Centre is committed to providing specialised nursing care for residents from a wide range of culturally diverse backgrounds. There has been an ongoing commitment to service older people in the community from diverse backgrounds.
I understand the Centre is extremely grateful for this additional funding and the Australian Government extends its thanks to local aged care champions such as EECQ.
“From my visit here today, it is wonderful the Australian Government can support places such as this. The additional funding will be used to support the work being done by the dedicated staff.”
