INDEPENDENCE DAY 2016

It is my pleasure to greet members of the Indian community of NSW celebrating Independence Day on 15 August. There are more than 138,000 people of Indian heritage living in the State who make valuable economic and cultural contributions to our peaceful and harmonious society. The friendship between NSW and India continues to flourish and Indian migrants, students and visitors are welcomed to the State in increasing numbers.

The Indian community plays an active role in our peaceful and harmonious society and must be commended for ensuring Consul General, Mr B. Vanlalvawna received a warm welcome when His Excellency arrived in Sydney earlier this year. The NSW Government is proud of the contributions made by the diverse Indian Australian community and is committed to developing the relationship between NSW and India.

I wish everyone a happy and peaceful Independence Day.

Mike Baird

Premier, NSW
