Pakistani heart throb Fawad Khan, and now of a billion Indians and NRIs, entered Bollywood year before last. Fawad Khan is charming, gorgeous and has Bollywood eating out from the palm of his hands. Fawad is the new face of Bollywood leaving the Indian Khans behind ”“ Amir, Shahrukh and Salman. He is young, he is bold, daring enough to take up roles such as the one in ”˜Kapoor & Sons’ in which he played an Indian son who finally comes out of the closet to declare that he is gay. He debuted in ”˜Khoobsurat’ with the pretty Sonam Kapoor earlier. Fawad Khan has built up a huge women fan following both in his home country and now in India too. His Pakistani serial ”˜Humsafar’ with beautiful Mahira Khan (slated opposite Shahrukh Khan in the movie ”˜Raees’ to be released in early 2017) was one that became a hit with the Indian-subcontinent community both back home and abroad. Fawad has acted in few Pakistani TV serials but left when he started to get offers from Bollywood.
Fawad Khan was in Melbourne for the 5th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM 2016), as its guest, his interview at the ABC in live conversation with Jon Faine at 774 ABC Melbourne, discussed cinema and censorship. Fawad was interviewed along with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Actress Richa Chadha and Director of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne Mitu Bhowmick-Lange.
Speaking at the ABC Live program, Fawad spoke about similarities between the two countries, “Indians and Pakistanis are essentially the same,” he said, “A number of Pakistani actors are crossing over to India to work in world’s biggest film Industry, Bollywood,” though he revealed that he wants to improve his dancing skills, for sure.
“I have been very lucky for what I have been offered so far. My boundaries are limited to number of films that are offered to me but I am pretty open and receptive to material that comes my way, I swear to God I wish I could dance or sing. I watch these people and wish I could move like them. I must say I am having a great time in Bollywood,” Fawad said.
IFFM Director Mitu Bhowmick-Lange shared, “This festival is a way to remind the world that Australia is a multicultural country and our love of cinema is just one thing we have in common. So I want everyone to enjoy the festival, and reassuringly they do.”
The ”˜Kapoor & Sons’ actor earnt another feather in his cap on Awards night on Friday by IFFM 2016 when he received ”˜Diversity Award’ at Mind Blowing Film’s film Fest that recognises diversity, excellence and achievement in Indian Cinema.
