India looking to create history in MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup Final
India will be looking to be the first nationality to successfully defend the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup when they go up against Pakistan in the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup Final on January 18th. The showpiece event will be played out on Spotless Stadium in front of a Sydney Thunder home crowd as a pre-cursor to the Sydney Thunder v Adelaide Strikers encounter.
The 2017 MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup Final will see both India and Pakistan return to the big stage after both teams went head to head in a thrilling final in last year’s edition, which saw India narrowly edge out their opponents. Both teams entered the 2016/17 MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup as the teams to beat and showcased this throughout their respective community rounds, with both teams remaining undefeated and carrying this form into the Semi-Finals where both fought off strong opposition to claim their spot in the Final.
India will be looking to defend the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup and will be hoping that all-rounder, Joban Sandhu, continues his strong performance with both bat and ball in hand after starring for his team to date. If India claim this year’s MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup, they will be the first nationality to claim multiple titles and the first team to win the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup in successive years.
Meanwhile, the team from Pakistan have been the standout team of the competition this year and will be out to upset the defending champions. Headlined by Rouse Hill local Ali Rizwan, the team from Pakistan boast four Grade Cricket players and a further four players who this year have represented the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup All Stars, a team of sixteen deemed to be the most outstanding players of the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup.
“The MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup has grown each year and the formation of the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup All Stars highlights this,” said Nick Cummins, Sydney Thunder General Manager.
“To have two teams competing in the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup Final that are so strongly represented is fantastic and will be great pre-game entertainment to our home game against the Adelaide Strikers,” Cummins added.
“I’m very proud to see how the MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup has grown. I’m sure that cricket fans are looking forward to this year’s finals to see a high quality game when two great teams will compete for the prestigious Cup,” said Michael Minassian, MoneyGram’s head of Australia, Indonesia & Oceania
“India and Pakistan are MoneyGram’s two important customer groups and we are all thrilled that these two cricketing heavyweights are facing off against each other again,” Minassian added.
The MoneyGram Thunder Nation Cup Final will commence at 4:15pm, with Spotless Stadium gates opening to the general public at 4:00pm.
