Cherrybrook Technology High to get $12 million expansion for 18 new classrooms upgrade

Cherrybrook Technology High School will receive 18 new classrooms under a $12 million expansion now underway.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Education Minister Rob Stokes visited the school today to inspect progress on the upgrade that will see high quality permanent accommodation replace existing demountable classrooms.

“This expansion of such an outstanding high school is part of the NSW Government’s record spending on public education infrastructure announced in the Budget,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“At hundreds of suburbs and towns across NSW over the next four years we will see more construction like this begin to provide 1500 new classrooms and 32,000 student places.”

Cherrybrook Technology High School first opened its doors in 1992 to provide secondary education for Sydney’s rapidly growing northwest and since then has doubled its enrolments to nearly 2000 students.

The school has a strong reputation for academic success with impressive Higher School Certificate and NAPLAN results.

Mr Stokes said the upgrade would provide quality learning spaces within a technology-rich, connected environment.

“The works underway at this school will be of a quality consistent with the excellent academic reputation of this school,” Mr Stokes said.

The project includes:

  • a new building incorporating general learning spaces, visual arts and multimedia workshops
  • conversion of existing visual arts and multimedia workshops in Block G into two new labs and five general learning spaces to enable consolidation of science facilities

It is expected that the facilities will be ready when Term 2 commences in April 2018.

Member for Epping Damien Tudehope said Cherrybrook Technology High School was one of the great schools of his electorate.

“I am pleased we are able to deliver the infrastructure the school needs to meet the challenges of a growing community and to continue to deliver quality education,” Mr Tudehope said.

The NSW Government announced in this year’s State Budget it would spend $4.2 billion on new, relocated and upgraded schools over the next four years ”“ the biggest investment in public school infrastructure in NSW history.

The record NSW Government investment comes amid projections that NSW public school enrolments will grow by 21 per cent, or 164,000 students, by 2031.
