30 contestants, a Bollywood diva and three titles in each category. The countdown starts to the annual beauty pageant Miss/Mrs/Mr India Australia 2018 where contestants from all over Australia will compete for the title in their respective category.

Brought by Miss India Australia Corporation and Maharaja Haveli, the contest aims to create a platform that celebrates womanhood and empower men to be the best. Keeping the tradition of having a Bollywood celebrity as the judge, actress and Miss Asia Pacific 2000 Dia Mirza will be the chief judge this year.

At the pre-launch event at Maharaja Haveli, we witnessed a sneak peek into the contest as the NSW contestants introduced themselves and talked about their desires to become a title holder. But with so many beauty pageants happening within the Indian-Australian community in Sydney, what sets this contest apart?

To this, National Director Reena Koak says, “Since six years, we are the most authentic Indo-Australian beauty pageant in Sydney. We are known for creating milestones into reality. What we have achieved, no one in Australia has achieved. Our title holders have been participating in pageants overseas year by year. We have our representatives making a mark in the world map. We have made news in Daily Telegraph where we were stated as the ”˜highest billed and biggest Indo-Australian pageant of the Indian community. After the presence of Bollywood actresses Soha Ali Khan and Karishma Kapoor, we have another Bollywood personality Dia Mirza joining us on the panel.”

The previous winner from the 2016 pageant Neekita Naidu won the title of Miss Supermodel Universe at Bulgaria. So will history repeat itself this year? “Each winner in each category will participate in international pageants in America and Europe. Our focus is to choose the best to make a mark internationally. For this, Dia Mirza was the perfect choice as she herself is a beauty queen and has represented India worldwide”, tells Reena.

Model and actress Dia Mirza, who is also known for her social work, will be joined on the panel by former Miss Lebanon Australia Mary Mehajer, a sportsperson, politicians and leading names from the community. The event is happening on 14 April 2018 at Bowman Hall, Blacktown.

So as the contestants will be going through rigorous training by a team of experts to prepare them physically and mentally, let’s wait and watch to see who wins the title this year!
