City of Parramatta partners with University of Sydney to get a Parramatta/Westmead campus

City of Parramatta Council has welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement that it has partnered with The University of Sydney to deliver a Parramatta/Westmead campus. The University, which will complement the Westmead Hospital precinct, will help consolidate Parramatta’s role as a national leader in health and education.

“The whole City is excited to welcome The University of Sydney to Parramatta and we look forward to witnessing the ground-breaking scientific and academic work to come out of this leading institute in the not-too-distant future,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.

“The decision to bring a University of Sydney campus to Parramatta is a wonderful outcome for our City.”

“The addition of such a prestigious institution in Parramatta will enhance our City’s position as a leader in innovation. It will bring economic and social benefits to the area ”“ which is already home to the Westmead health, education and research precinct ”“ and will provide local students and academics with a renowned educational facility on their doorstep.”

The announcement follows a market sounding process  conducted by UrbanGrowth NSW Development Corporation and Health Infrastructure NSW for land located across the Parramatta North Growth Centre and Westmead Health Precinct.

It will build on the work being undertaken by City of Parramatta Council and Health NSW on master planning the Westmead precinct to help it grow into a world-class Innovation District.

The Westmead Innovation District Master Plan has been a significant project for Council as it not only aims to encourage job growth in Parramatta, but seeks to boost the region’s infrastructure, transport and open spaces to cater for the growing community, student population and workforce.

“The University’s Parramatta/Westmead Campus proposal builds on its 80-year history of engagement in Western Sydney and complements its longstanding leadership in the Westmead Health and Education Precinct, which contains the largest concentration of health services in Australia,” Cr Wilson said.
