$900,000 promised by Liberals for Indian community festivals

The Indian community across NSW will benefit from $900,000 over four years for festivals and events thanks to the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams said he was delighted to be supporting significant Indian festivals and events across NSW including Diwali, Holi and Vaisakhi.

“More than 250,000 people of Indian ancestry call NSW home,” Mr Williams said.

“Every year the community enjoy coming together to celebrate Pongal, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, Gurupurab, Eid and Onam.

“This funding will support Indian Australians to share their culture with the broader NSW community and pass on traditions to younger generations.”

Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee said the funding demonstrated the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government commitment to supporting multicultural communities.

“This funding will ensure there is a strong future for Indian festivals and events in NSW,” Dr Lee said.

“We recognise the valuable contributions of Indian Australians to all facets of our culture in NSW, including business, health, food and the arts.”

To be eligible for Indian event grant funding, applicants must be non-profit organisations located in NSW and meet the assessment criteria.

Over the last year, the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has provided more than $23 million to multicultural communities.
