”˜Desa me Des Haryana, Jit Doodh Dahi ka Khana’ celebrated in Sydney

The Association of Haryanvis in Australia celebrated its first foundation day on the 29^th of June 2019 in Sydney. The Association that represents Australians with roots in the Indian State of Haryana was formed in 2018 and was launched at a gala event in the Parliament of New South Wales on the same day in 2018.

The event had the presence of some of the distinguished guests including MP Julia Finn, Hills Shire Councillor Reena Jethi, Dr. Nihal Singh Agar and Dr. Subbarao from ISC.

It was a fun filled evening with various cultural activities including group dances by teenagers, solo performances and skits.

Aditi Ghanghas and Mrs. Naresh Malik received notable mentions for their solo dances.

Other distinguished guests included Manu Parashar & Yogi Barak from Bol Haryana, Arun Malik and Sushil Yogat from Radio Kasoot, Dr Romi Jain & Dr Deepa Singhal from Canberra and Ashok Sud from PECOSA.

The in-house head chef Rajiv Gupta concluded the evening with sumptuous Indian cuisines cooked by the team of volunteers in the community kitchen.

Speaking to our representative, the President of the Association Sewa Singh said that the Association is fully committed to not only preserve and promote the rich Haryanvi culture of brotherhood & industriousness amongst Haryanvis and their future generations but also enable them to integrate better with Australian values & Culture

Speaking about the outstanding work the Association is doing, the Association Public Officer Mr. Sanjay Parashar expressed delight in the commencement of a fully operational Seniors Recreation Centre in Sydney where the seniors can communicate, interact and participate in recreational activities during their stay in Australia.

Furthermore, the ”˜Open-Day’ conducted by the association has been a huge success where they have been providing much needed guidance, support and advise to new migrants and students alike and helping them integrate with the Australian values and culture.

The Association Secretary Mr. Vibhor Sharma said, “our monthly social get-togethers are one of the most sought-after events in the community and the last event saw over 150 participants in Sydney.” With its good work in the community whilst working with the local government bodies, the Association is set out to expand its footprint and has launched the Victoria Chapter in Melbourne on the 27th of June 2019 in the Victorian Parliament.
