Close to the Edge: In Search of the Global Hip Hop Generation

Join author Sujatha Fernandes as she discusses her latest book, Close to the Edge: In Search of the Global Hip Hop Generation. Fernandes and a panel of guests will talk about the global effect of hip hop, as well as its personal influence in her life. Dr Fernandes is an academic, writer and musician. She has written three books and dozens of articles about black popular culture, global hip hop, and social movements and her work has been published in The New York Times, The Nation, and The Huffington Post. Having been involved in Hip Hopera, a huge multimedia celebration of local hip hop culture at Casula Powerhouse in the mid- 90s, the Powerhouse is an apt venue to celebrate the launch of Dr Fernandes’ third book. This event will include a panel discussion.
