WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo at Darling Harbour has unveiled WILD Discovery Zone – a fully interactive zone that will house a range of peculiar animal artifacts and play host to interactive animal visits that will give kids of all ages a chance to learn about some of Australia’s most intriguing animals.

Open to the public from 29th June in time for the winter school holidays, WILD Discovery Zone will ignite the wild imagination of passionate young animal lovers and inspire them to explore the mysteries of wild Australia. With a host of alternating activities on offer, kids will be able to touch Australian animal artifacts like crocodile skin and echidna bones, participate in kid-friendly craft activities and get a closer look at what makes Australian animals unique through microscopes and x-rays.

To mark the opening of the new zone, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo this morning invited their Junior Ambassador, Tanya Roberts as well as their three impassioned Junior Conservationists, Soumya Tejpal, 13 yrs, Holly Liggins, 8yrs, and Caitlin Hartnett, 8yrs, to be the first to trial the new exhibit and report back about the attraction’s newest offering for kids of all ages.

“I am so excited about the new exhibit. I’ve never touched echidna bones before and had no idea that lizards are very placid creatures,” said Caitlin Hartnett, one of WILD LIFE Sydney’s beloved Junior Conservationists.

Ben Buchanan, a keeper at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo said the new zone will bring a new exciting layer of interaction and education to the already interactive nature of the attraction.

“This zone is unique because unlike museums, we encourage kids to touch everything and with the live animal element, we really are bringing Australian animal history to life. Our aim of the WILD Discovery Zone is to offer exciting activities that will inspire the next generation of Australians to be passionate about conserving and protecting our rare and endangered native wildlife,” he said.

Over the school holidays, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is inviting kids to get involved in a Kids Club, where members will be invited to attend regular events on weekends and holidays! With WILD LIFE Sydney experts on hand to discuss the importance of our native wildlife, kids will be nagging mum and dad to head to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo these school holidays.

WILD Discovery Zone is the 10th habitat to join WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo and will sit amongst the likes of other iconic Australian habitats such as Kakadu Gorge, Kangaroo Walk-about, Koala Encounters and Bugs Garden.
