Tannishtha Chatterjee’s film ”˜Dekh Indian Circus’, recently having  won the ”˜Audience Choice best popular film award’ at the 16th  Busan International Film Festival held at Busan in Korea,  is being screened at Riverside Theatre on Friday September 12  at 7pm.

The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui of “Peepli Live” fame.

Says Tannishtha, “The film’s director, Mangesh Hadawale, had won the National Award for his first Marathi film, “Tingya”. It feels good that his second film, “DIC”, has made it to Busan, one of the most prestigious and the biggest Asian film festival.”

The film has also been selected for the 47th Chicago International Film Festival that will be held between October 6 and October 20. “The film will participate in the World Cinema programme. Close to 30 films are selected in this non-competitive section. I am honoured that this film has made it there too,” says Tannishtha.

”˜Dekh Indian Circus’ is a small film with a large heart. After a small seed begins to grow in the heart of a young girl who is enchanted by the notion of a circus character, a sweet and profound struggle for the simple act of watching the circus ensues. How far will a poor family go to take their two little children to the circus? With drama and pit stops at every turn, we are taken on a comedy of errors and triumphs.

Director Mangesh Hadawale smartly weaves various references to subtly convey the larger picture of how a nation, which is rising and shining as a leader of world economy, has poverty in its roots.  India  is the bigger “circus”, which has its “ringmasters” whipping the lions and making elephants dance, and then there are the “midget clowns” to be laughed at as well.
