Lend a Hand for South Asian Women’s Support Centre

lend a hand

A group of women (and organisations) are coming together to establish a centre to provide a supportive environment for South Asian women who are isolated, and at risk of domestic violence and homelessness.

The Centre, in Western Sydney, will provide a safe and enjoyable environment for women to access counselling, enjoy social outings and build networks in the community. Skills-oriented and recreational workshops will also be provided.

SEVA International’s women’s group, SAHELI, and Boronia Multicultural Services are partnering for this project, supported by other South Asian community organisations. Counselling support and other related services will be provided by Boronia Multicultural Services.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

SAHELI/SEVA and Boronia Multicultural Services are calling for Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Nepali, Bhutanese and Bangladeshi women to help with

* volunteer support at the Centre rostered on once a month

* help with social outings and assisting women with errands

* delivering skills or recreational workshops (arts and craft, resume-writing, interview skills, ESL etc)

Where is the money coming from?

The pilot is being funded by Boronia Multicultural Services. We propose to seek ongoing funding to support this much-needed service for women in our community through grants and donations. It would be wonderful if we can make this happen with community support.

Register your interest in volunteering before  Friday 16th May
