Shabana Azmi and Satinder Sartaaj star in ‘The Black Prince’

Well known Indian actress Shabana Azmi will soon be seen as Duleep’s Mother in movie ‘The Black Prince’, a bilingual English-Hindi  film telling the tragic yet fascinating true story of Maharaja Duleep Singh the last King of the Sikh Empire in Punjab. Son of the powerful ruler Ranjit Singh, he was born in 1838 and placed on the throne at the age of 5 after the death of his father. In 1849, when Punjab was annexed to British India, the young prince was removed from the throne and eventually sent off to England. His attempts to return to India and reclaim his kingdom were thwarted by the British. He ended up a pauper, dying alone in a Paris hotel in 1893.

The Black Prince  movie is directed by Kavi Raz and has Punjabi singer poet Satinder Sartaaj in a debut role. He plays the lead role in the film titled ‘The Black Prince’ which is the real life story of Maharaja Duleep Singh, son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the last King of Punjab.

The movie has been written and will be directed by LA based filmmaker Kavi Raz and has a budget of approximately $5 million. Shooting for the film began in England and the film is slated for release later this year.
