Prolific run scorer Kumar Sangakkara has called on Sri Lankan fans to turn the Sydney Cricket Ground blue tomorrow for the first quarter final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

2011 World cup finalists Sri Lanka take on South Africa with the winner to progress to the semi-finals. Tickets to the match are still available fromwww.cricketworldcup.com

Sangakkara, the tournament’s leading scorer, said the fans give his team a massive lift.

“Tests don’t come any bigger than South Africa who have some of the best players in the world,” he said.

“But I have great confidence in Sri Lanka and I know that we can build on the momentum over the last few weeks to go and get the result.

“There is no better feeling than walking out on the biggest stage and the SCG is one of the most iconic venues in world cricket.

“Our recent game against Australia was an incredible occasion and although the result didn’t go for us that night, the sight of so many Sri Lanka fans gave everyone in the team a massive lift. Hopefully they can do the same on Wednesday and drive us on to the semifinals.”

South Africa’s JP Duminy said he and his teammates were excited to be playing at the SCG

“It’s a ground filled with rich history and tradition and every player is looking forward to the occasion,” he said.

“We have made some good memories at the SCG over the years, and more recently we were treated to a spectacular batting display by AB de Villiers, which in my opinion is still one of the standout innings of the tournament.

“Sri Lanka will be a tough challenge for us, they have been playing good cricket and have some world-class players who are in good form. We know that we will need to be at our best to win.

“We had fantastic support during our last match against the West Indies, hopefully all the South Africans and the New South Wales public come in their numbers. Either way, it promises to be an electric atmosphere with some of the world’s best cricketers on show.”
