Neeru does a double interview with Varun and Shraddha, lead actors of ABCD 2 in cinemas now…

He has the moves and she’s got the groove. He’s known for his dancing and she loves crooning. His six pack abs drive women crazy and she is one of the sexiest B-town actresses. Acting is in their genes and they are childhood friends. So when actors Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor come together for a movie – it’s natural for their onscreen chemistry to sizzle!

So it didn’t come as a surprise when their much-awaited dance flick ‘ABCD 2’ trailer launch received over 1.2 million views on YouTube. Slated for a June 19 release by Disney films, ABCD 2 (Any Body Can Dance) brings back Indian dance masters Remo D’Souza and Prabhu Deva together once again for the sequel.

Varun Dhawan (son of film director David Dhawan) is the only actor from the current generation to have back to back hits (Student of The Year, Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, Badlapur). Shraddha Kapoor (daughter of villain Shakti Kapoor) made her breakthrough with the highly successful romantic drama  Aashiqui 2  and then featured in the thriller  Ek Villain  and the critically acclaimed drama  Haider.

Amidst having loads of fun at the screening of  Avengers  and a day before Varun’s 28th birthday, actors Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan were enthusiastic to talk about their new film. Thanks to Mind Blowing Films and Disney Films, we got chatty with the young and fresh stars in an exclusive interview:

ABCD 2 is the first dance 3D film based on a true story. How do you contribute to the story?

Varun: I play the character of Suresh who is a waiter from Nala Sopara, Mumbai. I’m obsessed about dancing but I wait tables as a part time job. My mom is my inspiration for dancing.

Shraddha: I’m a hair stylist in the film. My name is Vinnie and my aim is to win Las Vegas’ biggest hip-hop competition. We both take it together from Mumbai to Las Vegas. We are representing India for the first time.

In the film you have done hip hop and street style dances. What kind of preparation did you to both do to become dancers?

Varun: We rehearsed for six months. It didn’t take us many days to rehearse each song then as there were lots of songs in the film. It was a challenge for Shraddha as she has never had any big dance items in her films so far.

How was it working with Prabhu Deva – India’s Michael Jackson?

Shraddha ”“ I’ll answer this question! It was amazing seeing him dance in front of our eyes. Though he was probably a few feet away, he is larger than life. He is a humble, down to earth person and even when he told us about his steps and taught us how to perform, he was always very rooted.

You have been childhood friends since your dads worked together in many films. Can you share with us a childhood memory?

Shraddha: I will happily share some memories! We have grown up together at our father’s shoot sets. Varun is the same energetic, hyper active boy for me! I remember him dancing for birthday parties and I can still see that love for dancing in him. He dances with complete abandon. And those who don’t know, he still has a naughty side to him and looks innocent sometimes.

Do you think you would have attained the same success if you weren’t star kids?

Varun: Even if you are a star kid it makes no difference. You can get the audition but afterwards it’s your hard work and skills. Shraddha’s first few films didn’t work at the box office.
Shraddha: Thanks Varun! But what he is saying is true.

You both have dabbled in all kind of genres so far – romance, thrillers and crime. How would you set apart ABCD 2?

Shraddha: This is the first film I’ll be dancing in. This film will take you on a journey where dancing is about expressing yourself. My experience has been that dancing is the best medium to express yourself. Above all, this film is based on real life stories which are interesting and inspiring in itself.

Their onscreen hot chemistry has already become the talk of the town – and their offscreen chemistry was quite evident in the interview. Watch them out as they travel from Mumbai to the vibrant city of Las Vegas with ABCD2 in a bittersweet journey of love, friendship, betrayal, honour and redemption.
