WMRF announces Diwali appeal
Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) recently launched its inaugural Diwali appeal titled, ”˜Spread the light, share some love’, in acknowledgment of the Festival of Lights and its significance to the large subcontinent community of Western Sydney.
Diwali is celebrated with enthusiasm across India, the subcontinent and south Asia, as well as among the diaspora here who felicitate the festival’s universal message of the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The festival is also a significant celebration of life and all proceeds from WMRF’s Diwali appeal will go into funding health care, medical research and equipment. “WMRF believes that people deserve the best possible care, and are passionate about the health and well-being of the community, helping fund critical care, life-saving equipment and groundbreaking research,” says Belinda Szafraniec, Chief Operating Officer, WMRF.
Funding helps support research that spans a range of areas including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, obesity and cancer, in addition to providing specialist medical equipment and a range of healthcare services. Whether it’s one of the 6,000 precious new babies born at Westmead each year, or more than 1,000,000 patient visits to the Hospital, WMRF is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the community.
