Dr Cindy Pan,  Parramatta 2016 Australia Day Ambassador

Parramatta residents are being encouraged to nominate outstanding community members for an Australia Day Local Award by Sunday 10 January 2016.

The Awards recognise excellence and exemplary achievement in the local community and acknowledge the significance of their service to the nation.

Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Paul Garrard says people can nominate friends, family members, workmates or anyone whose efforts have inspired the community.

“Being nominated for an Australia Day Local Award is a great honour and recognises the commitment and dedication of members of the community which otherwise goes unnoticed. Australia Day is the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to our unsung heroes,” Cr Garrard said.

This year’s Parramatta 2016 Australia Day Ambassador is  medical practitioner and best-selling author  Dr Cindy Pan. Much of  Dr Pan’s  work is  devoted  to educating communities about general health and lifestyle issues, sexual health, women’s medicine and relationship issues.

“Cindy has been an Ambassador and spokesperson for a number of vital community organisations including  Northcott  Disability Services, the Australian Red Cross Blood Bank, Make-A-Wish Foundation and The Salvation Army.  Her  long list of remarkable achievements  and community involvement  is  truly inspiring,”  Cr  Garrard  said.

Dr Pan said she was delighted and honoured to be the Australia Day Ambassador for Parramatta.

“Parramatta has such a  rich history as a meeting  place. It is also  the future growth centre of Sydney.  I can think of no better, more auspicious  and exciting place to celebrate Australia Day than  in Parramatta.”
