A Cold Saturday evening in August and what better than to listen to some old Kishore Kumar songs in a cosy warm atmosphere. If you are a fan of Kishore Kumar and attending an evening that promises not only an acoustic delight in the form of old melodies of a blessed golden opportunity, one had to be there. On August 13, 2016, the iconic songs of Kishore Kumar Concert ”˜Geet Gaata Hu Main’ was organised by SNSR hosted by Nataraj Academy with Sydney’s popular band ”˜Jazba’ at Redgum Function Centre Wentworthville.

It was a night of soulful Kishore Kumar numbers and nostalgia as melodies of Kishore da songs were brought back to life. Avijit Sarkar was emcee for the evening as he warmed up the audience with brief history of Kishore Kumar, how he entered into the world of cinema. Kishore Kumar is a legend and is an inspiration to all not only in India but here with NRIs as well. His songs are timeless and still being sung by generations young and old. Avijit welcomed the local talented artists and the stars of the evening – Sadiq Rehmani, Dilip Bhave and Shivangi Vyas Doshi.

Multitalented Sadiq Rehmani and Dilip Bhave need no introduction.  Both belong to a family of musicians now having joined Avijit’s Nataraj Academy and part of the ”˜Jazba’ band. Sadiq is a fantastic guitarist and an amazing singer. Dilip is a versatile singer who can also play the keyboard, tabla, drums and the guitar and is Sydney’s own Kishore Kumar.  Shivangi, another wonderful singer, has passion for singing and has performed in numerous community programs.

The singers started with the song of 80s ”˜Bachna ae haseeno’ from the movie ”˜Hum kisi se kam nahi’ by Dilip Bhave. Sadiq Rehmani with a guitar in hand and versatility in his vocal cords, sang ”˜Aradhana’ song ”˜Mere sapno ki rani’. With these nostalgic numbers an exciting passionate romantic mood was set for this delightful    night.

Shivangi Vyas and Dilip Bhave started off to a thundering applause when the duo sang ”˜Haal kaisa hai janab ka’. Another passionate duet followed with Sadiq and Shivangi ”˜Jiska mujhe tha intezaar’ from movie ”˜Don’. The team pelted famous Kishore numbers – ”˜Agar tum na hote’, ”˜Jai jai shiv shankar’ ”˜Gaata rahe mera dil’, ”˜Mere dil mein aaj kya ahi’, ”˜Zindgi ek safar hai suhana’ and many more to everyone’s delight.

Sadiq and Dilip performed a medley of different songs in one number, at times encouraging the audience to sing along with them. The magic of Sadiq and Dilip Bhave’s shone with superb performance by the musicians of Jazba band as well.

It was an amazing journey down the memory lane. The rhythmic tabla played by Abhijit Dan added an extra dimension to the nostalgia. An evening worth attending with audience not only all smiles as it headed home but only after exacting a promise of another Kishore evening by the singers.
