KFC BBL and Rebel WBBL Derbies to be commentated in Hindi
Commentary of three derby matches in this season’s KFC Big Bash League (BBL) and Rebel Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will be made available live to Australia’s Indian community in Hindi via the Cricket Australia Live app and cricket.com.au to cater to cricket’s diverse fan base.
The initiative is a result of the partnership between Cricket Australia and Indian Link Media Group that saw every ball of last year’s KFC T20 INTL Series between Australia and India made available in Hindi.
This year the partnership has expanded to include Rebel WBBL and KFC BBL matches, including the sold out season opener at Spotless Stadium between the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers on 20 December and the WBBL/BBL Melbourne Derby double header between the Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars at Etihad Stadium on 7 January.
“Through our broadcast partners, both here in Australia and around the world, as well as our own digital channels, Cricket Australia has made the BBL and WBBL more accessible to our fans no matter where they are.” said Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager, Media, Communications and Marketing Ben Amarfio. “We want to be a sport for all Australians and initiatives such as this are a key part of our strategy to embrace multicultural Australia.”
“We take great pride in the quality and excitement generated throughout the coverage of our BBL and WBBL matches, “said Cricket Australia Head of the Big Bash League, Anthony Everard. “This is an exciting addition to our existing suite of options and adds further diversity of choice for our many thousands of Hindi speaking fans.”
The Indian Link commentary will also be available for the KFC T20 International between Australia and Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars match against New Zealand, both at the MCG on 17 February 2017.
“After the success of last year’s Hindi commentary it is great to be a part of this initiative by Cricket Australia,” said Pawan Luthra, CEO of Indian Link. “Indian Australians of all ages have a passion for cricket and this is a great opportunity for them to hear the phenomenon that is the BBL and WBBL live in their own language.”
“With two Indian cricketers now a part of WBBL action it seems that domestic cricket in Australia has got even more to offer to its ever growing fan base.”
Members of the commentary team have been drawn from Australia’s Indian community, having won the chance to commentate alongside Indian Links’ established commentary team through a unique online competition.
Indian Link Media Group has been telling the Indian story in Australia for over 23 years. Its platforms in the print, radio and online sectors have garnered widespread reach not only within the Indian community, but also those in the mainstream interested in India.
