Recommended here some more events with writers of Indian heritage at Sydney Writers Festival (May 22-May 28):

Anuk Arudpragasam is from Colombo, Sri Lanka and currently lives in New York, where he is completing a doctorate in philosophy at Columbia University. His first novel, The Story of a Brief Marriage, is a meditation on trauma and silence and takes place over the course of a few hours in a displaced person’s camp during the final days of the Sri Lankan Civil War. Described as ‘an act of sustained empathy’ by The New Yorker, it was named one of the Best Ten Novels of 2016 by The Wall Street Journal. Anuk writes in English and Tamil.

Durga Chew-Bose is a Montreal-born writer. Her work has appeared in publications including The Globe and Mail, The Hairpin, Lenny Letter and The Guardian. Her debut collection of essays, Too Much and Not the Mood, was inspired by a 1931 Virginia Woolf diary entry. It explores culture, writing, and identity and the result is a lyrical and piercingly insightful collection of essays written in her own brand of essay-meets-prose poetry. Durga is currently teaching a non-fiction writing workshop at Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

Rajith Savanadasa was born in Sri Lanka and now lives in Melbourne. His first novel Ruins was published in 2016 and shortlisted for the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction. Rajith also runs Open City Stories, an oral history project documenting the lives of a group of asylum seekers in Melbourne. Rajith is currently working on a follow-up to Ruins as well as the next phase of Open City Stories.
